Hephaestus Review: Sticky Wilds During Free Spins

Quick Stats: Hephaestus uses a 5×3 grid with 243 ways to win, awards 8 Free Spins from three Free Game symbols, and introduces a Super Wild on reel 5 that can turn positions on reels 2–4 Wild during the bonus.

Hephaestus saves its most important mechanic for the bonus round. Ordinary spins use a Fireball-style Wild, but Free Spins add the god Hephaestus himself as a Super Wild on the fifth reel. When that symbol appears, a position on one of the three central reels can be transformed into a Wild, with detailed descriptions indicating that these marked positions remain Wild on subsequent bonus spins.

CQ9 Gaming currently lists Hephaestus in its official catalog, while PAGCOR independently records the title as a CQ9 slot. Where some gambling slots reset their special-symbol layout after every Free Spin, Hephaestus can carry newly forged Wild positions forward, allowing the central reels to develop as the bonus progresses.

Hephaestus Game Data: 243 Ways, 8 Free Spins & 3,000x

Software Provider: Hephaestus appears with other CQ9 titles in the CQ9 collection. CQ9’s current catalog explicitly includes Hephaestus.
PAGCOR Listing: HEPHAESTUS — ID 142, version 1.1.0 — Slot. The current PAGCOR CQ9 list independently verifies the title and game version.
RTP (Return to Player): 96.07% reported by SlotCatalog and CasinoMentor. Other detailed databases leave RTP unspecified, while SOSGame reports 96.00%. No accessible CQ9 first-party math sheet located during research establishes a universal percentage, so 96.07% should remain a reported configuration.
Volatility: Not reliably verified. SlotCatalog lists variance as N/A, while another detailed CQ9-specific source explicitly states that volatility has not been established.

Paylines / Ways to Win: 243 ways to win.
Regular Wild: A Fireball Wild substitutes for ordinary paying symbols. Detailed rules identify it as the base-game Wild.

Retrigger: Supported. Secondary documentation consistently reports that Free Spins can be extended, with a 40-spin maximum reported by several detailed sources.
Maximum Win: 3,000x reported by SlotCatalog, CasinoMentor and Slots Temple. This figure has strong secondary agreement but was not located in accessible CQ9 first-party documentation, so retain “reported” if publishing it.
Bonus Buy: No reliable evidence located for a Bonus Buy feature.
Published Bet Range: Secondary sources disagree. SlotCatalog reports 0.10–200 units, while Slots Temple and another detailed source report 0.50–1,250 units. Use the current 789Bingo PHP interface rather than translating an external range.

The Reel-5 Super Wild Forges Persistent Wild Positions

Hephaestus begins with a relatively conventional 5×3, 243-ways structure, but its Free Spins mechanic changes how the reel grid develops.

The regular Fireball Wild substitutes for ordinary paying symbols. The more distinctive Wild does not enter until Free Spins: Hephaestus appears on reel 5 as a Super Wild.

When that Super Wild lands, it can transform a position on reel 2, 3 or 4 into another Wild. GamblersPick's description adds the important persistence rule: the affected position is marked so that it remains Wild on the following spin. This creates the possibility for the bonus grid to develop additional useful Wild positions rather than resetting completely after every result.

The bonus begins when three Free Game symbols land, awarding 8 Free Spins. Slots Temple reports that the same trigger also pays 2x total bet.

Free Spins can also be retriggered. Several independent detailed sources report that the complete feature can extend to a maximum of 40 spins.

The resulting mechanical sequence is:

243-ways base play → Fireball Wild → 3 Free Game symbols → 8 Free Spins → Hephaestus Super Wild on reel 5 → positions on reels 2–4 become Wild → retriggers can extend the feature.

That is a particularly coherent use of the theme. Hephaestus is the Greek god associated with fire and metalworking, and CQ9 effectively turns him into the bonus mechanic that “forges” new Wild positions onto the reels. The game-specific value lies in that changing Free Spins grid—not merely in its Olympus setting.

Tracking Wild Positions Through the Hephaestus Bonus

1. Create an Account or Sign In: Visit 789Bingo and register or sign in to an existing account.

2. Deposit Funds: Open the cashier and select an available payment method while keeping the amount within a predetermined entertainment budget.

3. Locate Hephaestus: Open the CQ9 slots collection and select Hephaestus.

4. Set Your Wager Size: The game uses 243 ways across a 5×3 layout. Published third-party stake ranges conflict, so follow the PHP controls shown by the deployed 789Bingo version.

5. Press Spin: Watch for the regular Fireball Wild and three Free Game symbols. During Free Spins, the important symbol becomes the Hephaestus Super Wild on reel 5, which can create additional Wild positions on the central reels.

Pro Tip: Because Hephaestus does not have a reliably verified volatility classification, avoid assigning a staking strategy based on an assumed Medium or High math model. Instead, set the wager from your predetermined session budget. Once Free Spins begin, persistent Wild positions can alter later bonus outcomes, but that mechanic does not make the bonus more likely to trigger on the next paid spin.

Questions About Hephaestus RTP, Super Wilds & Free Spins

What is the RTP of CQ9 Hephaestus?

96.07% is the strongest currently corroborated secondary figure. SlotCatalog and CasinoMentor independently report that percentage.

However, Slots Temple and another detailed CQ9-specific database do not provide an RTP, while SOSGame reports 96.00%. Because an accessible CQ9 first-party specification was not located, check the information screen of the exact 789Bingo deployment before presenting 96.07% as universal.

What does the Hephaestus Super Wild do?

The Super Wild appears on reel 5 during Free Spins. When it lands, it can turn a position on reel 2, 3 or 4 into a Wild. Detailed documentation reports that the affected position remains marked as Wild on the following bonus spin.

This is different from the regular Fireball Wild available during ordinary play and is the defining mechanic of the bonus.

How many Free Spins can Hephaestus award?

Three Free Game symbols initially award 8 Free Spins.

The feature can be retriggered, and several detailed sources report a maximum of 40 Free Spins. This 40-spin ceiling is secondary-source information rather than a figure located in CQ9's accessible first-party catalog, so the live paytable should override it if the deployed version differs.

Hephaestus doesn't merely increase a multiplier during its bonus—it can change the usable Wild map for later spins. Compare that persistent-position mechanic with other bonus structures in the online slot collection, including games that reset, accumulate or modify their special symbols differently.

Forge Wild Positions, Not a Larger Playing Budget

Hephaestus can accumulate useful Wild positions during Free Spins, which makes an active bonus progressively more visually engaging. That progression exists inside the triggered feature; it does not mean that a bonus becomes increasingly due after repeated base-game spins.

Before playing at 789Bingo, decide on a bankroll using disposable entertainment funds. Deposit caps and session/time limits can keep both spending and playing time within boundaries established before the first wager.

Do not raise the stake to recover losses or continue depositing because three Free Game symbols have not appeared. Random outcomes do not become more likely simply because a previous sequence did not produce the bonus. Use a timeout when a temporary break is needed; self-exclusion provides a stronger restriction for a longer period away from gambling.

PAGCOR provides official regulatory and responsible-gaming information. The official verification portal can assist with authorization-related checks; it does not protect individual wagers from losses or guarantee winnings.

Hephaestus can forge new Wild positions during a bonus; keep the financial limits of the session fixed before that feature ever begins.
