Release the Kraken Megaways Review: Roaming Wild Respins and Chest Modifiers

Release the Kraken Megaways is a Pragmatic Play six-reel slot using a variable Megaways grid with up to 117,649 ways to win. Its important distinction is that it does not rely on a conventional Tumble mechanic. Instead, the game combines Mystery symbols, roaming Wilds and two bonus systems that use Wild movement in different ways.

How the Wild Respin Works

Landing at least three Wild symbols activates a Respin mode.

Once active, the Wilds begin roaming to new positions after Respins. If another Wild lands during the feature, an additional Respin is awarded and that new Wild also becomes part of the roaming group.

The feature therefore develops through Wild accumulation and movement:

three Wilds → Respins begin → Wilds move → new Wild lands → another Respin.

There is no need to invent cascading symbol removals to explain the mechanic.

Mystery Symbols Have a Different Function

Mystery symbols can also appear in the base game. When they resolve, they transform into the same regular symbol.

This is separate from the roaming-Wild mechanic. Mystery symbols alter the identity of symbols already present, while roaming Wilds physically change position during the Respins.

Free Spins Use Chosen Modifiers

Three or more Scatter symbols trigger six initial Free Spins.

Before the feature begins, bonus chests can reveal modifiers. Pragmatic Play currently lists possible upgrades including additional Free Spins, extra roaming Wilds, multipliers and minimum-Megaways guarantees.

During the bonus, all Wilds become roaming Wilds. If two roaming Wilds stop in the same position, the bonus multiplier increases by 1x.

That creates a different form of progression from ordinary tumble multiplier slots: the multiplier grows through overlapping moving Wilds rather than through repeated cascading wins.
