Thor CQ9 Review: Hammer Multipliers and a Different Free Spins Trigger

Thor is a CQ9 Gaming slot based on Norse mythology, using five reels and 243 ways to form winning combinations. Its most useful mechanical distinction is that the Hammer symbol and the Free Spins trigger do different jobs. Hammer symbols can award multiplier prizes, while the bonus round is activated through a qualifying five-symbol combination instead of simply collecting Hammer Scatters.

Understanding that separation makes Thor easier to read than descriptions that group every special feature under a single Scatter mechanic.

How the 243-Ways System Works

Thor uses 243 ways rather than a small set of fixed paylines. Winning combinations are formed by matching symbols across consecutive reels from left to right, so the symbols do not need to sit on a drawn horizontal or diagonal line.

The Thor Wild can substitute for regular paying symbols to help complete these combinations.

The Hammer behaves differently. Published game rules describe three Hammers awarding a 3x prize multiplier, four awarding 20x, and five awarding 50x. These values relate to the Hammer feature and should not be confused with the game's overall maximum-win figure.

Hammer Multipliers Do Not Trigger Free Spins

One unusual part of Thor is that the Hammer is not the only feature players need to watch.

Published rules state that completing a five-of-a-kind winning combination can activate five Free Spins. This means the bonus trigger and the Hammer multiplier system are separate mechanics.

That distinction matters because landing more Hammers increases the Hammer award, while completing the required symbol combination opens the bonus round. Describing both simply as “Scatter wins” hides how the game actually works.

What Changes During Free Spins?

The Free Spins round begins with five spins at the triggering bet level. During the feature, Hammer symbols can reveal or award additional prizes.

The bonus can also be extended. If another qualifying five-symbol combination occurs during Free Spins, another five spins are added. Published rule references place a limit on the number of retriggers, so the feature is expandable rather than an unlimited sequence.

This creates a two-layer bonus structure: matching symbols can extend the duration of the feature, while Hammer appearances affect its prize potential.

Verify RTP and Maximum Win In-Game

Third-party sources publish conflicting RTP, volatility, bet-limit and maximum-win figures for Thor.

CQ9's publicly accessible catalogue confirms Thor as a CQ9 title but does not currently expose enough technical data to settle those differences.

For that reason, check the information panel of the version available through 789Bingo before publishing a specific RTP, volatility rating, bet range or maximum-win ceiling.

Gambling can be addictive, know when to stop.
